Forte Leone

The armored battery built between 1906 and 1912 at an altitude of 1512m on Cima Campo was later named "Forte Leone" and represented the most powerful permanent fortification of the entire fortification system of Brenta - Cismon.

The structure consists of distinct and separate parts, all connected by covered passages and tested for durability, forming a vast and formidable defensive complex that raised serious concerns within the Austrian general staff even before it was completed. The components of the fortress can be distinguished as follows:

- a position for long-range combat, the actual armored battery;
- a position for close combat, made of concrete;
- a barracks block used for accommodations, services, and storage, along with a forecourt, an underground magazine, and a laboratory for the preparation of shells and charges;
- a perimeter trench, which at the throat front assumed the appearance of a true moat with vertical walls, while at the main front and on the right side it presented itself as a semi-trench with sloping walls and vertical counter-scarp. On the left side, the excavation, made impossible by the steep slope of the terrain that dropped towards the valley floor, was replaced by a lattice barrier.
