Mario Manica - Climbing to Travel, by Luca Rapetti, Italy, 45’
The film tells the extraordinary life of Mario Manica, a former climber from Trentino who, between the 1980s and 2004, explored the world through his expeditions. An accident in Venezuela in 2004 ended his climbing career, but not his adventurous spirit. Mario discovers biking as a new way to travel and explore the world. Through spectacular landscapes and touching stories, the documentary celebrates resilience, curiosity, and the ability to reinvent oneself even in the face of the greatest challenges. Mario Manica was a guest at Beyond the Peaks in 1999, at the height of his impressive climbing activity.
Des équilibres, by Antoine Mesnage, France, 26’
The highliners take us through their spectacular activity, which has a strong visual impact. In the Alps or in the desert, by the sea or across rivers, we discover the inner journey of those who practice this sport, a path certainly more significant than the simple visible physical performance.
Painting the Mountains, by Pierre Cadot, Argentina – Chile, 59’
The film presents the activities of a group of skiers, accompanied by the reflections of photographer Matthew Tufts, engaged in the mountains of Patagonia in the Fitz Roy group. Peaks and walls famous for climbing routes now become the ground for extreme descents, reserved for top-level skiers. Spectacular images and high emotional tension for a film about climbing and friendship.
