The Feast of Saint Lucy is a holiday celebrated on 13 December, in Advent, in memory of Saint Lucy, a 3rd century martyr under Diocletian's persecution of Christians. She, according to legend, brought "food and aid to Christians hiding in the catacombs of Syracuse" using a crown of candles to "light her way and leave her hands free to bring as much food as possible". His feast coincided with the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year before the calendar reforms. Falling in the Advent season, St Lucy's Day is seen as an event that signals the arrival of Christmas Time, which culminates with the arrival of the Light of Christ in the calendar, on Christmas Day. Being its patron saint, Santa Lucia is celebrated every year in Vodo.
