Discover moreOn the ninetieth anniversary of the death of Ercole Marchioni (1890-1935), an artist and fighter native to Peaio di Vodo di Cadore, the Rimoldi Museum in Cortina meets the writer Antonio Chiades, author of Ercole Marchioni. A Life of Painful Beauty.
Chiades has dedicated years of research to the figure of the artist and Cadore soldier, capturing “the artistic experience in its most intimate inner folds, the fragmented pulsation of a soul dazzled and stunned by beauty, until the end, but closed in itself in the painful inability to reassemble and overcome the traumas suffered.”
Marchioni stood alongside emerging figures in the national artistic scene of the early twentieth century, such as Arturo Martini, Gino Rossi, Felice Casorati, and Umberto Moggioli. With them, he participated in the 1913 Venice exhibition at Ca’ Pesaro. He trained in Venice and Munich, developing a distinctive painting style defined by expressive depth, the density of brushstrokes laden with color, with chromatic reflections that mirror the hues of the woods, skies, and Dolomite rocks, and the varied verdant sweetness of the Cadore villages.
The meeting will open with a brief historical introduction by engineer Marco Moretta.
The writer Chiades will then take on the role of Ercole Marchioni himself, joined by Walter Giroldini, with a soundtrack of popular and classical music performed by pianist and composer Carlo De Battista along with some songs from baritone Luca Pivetta.
At the end, to the notes of Verdi, a toast outside the Rimoldi Museum with the sparkling wine 47 Anno Domini offered by Vinicola Tombacco srl of Trebaseleghe-Padova.
