Antica Fiera di San Matteo

Valbelluna November 1, 2025

Locality: Centro Storico, Feltre

Valbelluna
La noce feltrina

The historic San Matteo Fair returns again this year, gathering the quality producers of Feltrino and the Province of Belluno. The event takes place in the wonderful setting of the historic center, where many small businesses showcase their traditional local agricultural products.

The San Matteo Fair was born with the idea of promoting the Feltrina walnut, but over the years it has expanded further, adding even more products and attracting more and more people interested in purchasing.

The "feltrina walnut" is characterized by its "premicità," meaning it breaks very easily, almost just by squeezing it between the fingers. Another characteristic that rewards the queen of the fair is the high yield of the shelled nut, which is accompanied by the extreme ease of extracting the kernel.

A genuine fruit that delights the palate with its sweet and round taste but not only that. The entire production indeed follows natural methods, without the use of pesticides and bleaching treatments, in respect of the environment and health. The drying still takes place in the sun on racks as tradition dictates.

A little curiosity: in the past, it was a tradition to plant a walnut tree for the birth of every female child as a symbol of good fortune and prosperity.

Therefore, there will be Feltre Walnuts, but also Chestnuts and “moroni” from Feltrino, cheeses from the alpine dairies, pumpkins, Lamon beans and Gialet beans, and Prussian apple to brighten up this late autumn day.
