In Valmorel, this year we again have a competition dedicated to all those who wish to challenge themselves with their creativity. This time, the competition takes a purely photographic form in memory of the friend and photographer Loris De Barba, who was engulfed by his beloved mountains just under a year ago.
Loris loved everything about his valleys and mountains: the waters, the rocks, the snow, the sunsets and the sunrises when the entire landscape seems to hold its breath. A Russian poet wrote that only in enthusiasm does a human being see the world exactly. And Loris knew how to see and photograph it with his eyes and his heart. He could capture it and generously gifted it to us, he knew how to seize the beauty and gave it to us so that we could enjoy it.
The title of the competition “Man and Mountain” aims to remember the figure of Loris, so dear to Valmorel, his symbiosis with the mountain, and to stimulate participants to capture with a non-professional shot the small and large glimpses, silences, joys, labors, and experiences that connect humans to the mountain landscape.
