Accompanied by the tour guide Marta Azzalini. Of ancient origins, the town of Auronzo stretches along the left shore of Lake Santa Caterina, on whose waters the Three Peaks of Lavaredo are mirrored. The itinerary begins at the "Palazzo Corte Metto" Museum, which tells the story of this territory from Prehistory to the present, starting with the famous footprints found at the foot of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo and thus from the geological history of the Dolomites, to retrace the important archaeological discoveries of Monte Calvario and the town of Auronzo and the more recent events through photographs and memorabilia from the First World War. The visit continues to the church of Santa Giustina, one of the main churches in Cadore, built shortly after the year 1000, and then to the one dedicated to San Lucano, the Apostle of the Dolomites, and finally to the Gothic church of Santa Caterina, which gives its name to the homonymous lake. Walking over the monumental dam built in the 1930s that blocks the flow of the Ansiei stream, we reach the opposite shore of the lake, admiring Auronzo from another perspective in the shade of the forest.
