A morning along a teaching and challenge path through breathtaking trails and landscapes aimed at discovering the basic concepts of navigation in mountainous environments.
All in a context of exploration and play, discovering how to read maps, plan routes, interpret signs, measure space and time, and navigate with a compass. Between marked and clearly visible paths, and explorations to find hidden tracks, fun is guaranteed.
The hiking activity and the learning part are designed for everyone; there's no need to be knowledgeable about the subject or have participated in previous mountain orienteering experiences. The day is intended for those who wish to discover and learn something new about how to best and safely enjoy a mountain hike, knowing how to navigate and "sail" using simple tools that become useful in bad weather and low visibility situations, but also in case one loses direction while walking off known trails.
For the occasion, LAREFA will provide some compasses, maps, and stopwatches, space-time matrix cards, which will be used during technical explanations and practical tests, along with tips and anecdotes, while we explore our way around the stunning forests in the glacial circle at the head of the Val di Gares.
