Desmontegada in dialect means transhumance: the return of the animals from the summer mountain pasture period. When autumn arrives and temperatures drop, the weather is changeable and the grass on the alpine pastures begins to run short, the shepherds bring their animals back to the valley.
The event Se Desmonteghea, is a cheerful and colourful festival involving the entire village of Falcade and its surroundings, to celebrate the festive descent of the herds from the pastures.
For the villages in the valleys, this return is a real celebration that enlivens the village centre. The cows are festively adorned with colourful flowers, ribbons and fabrics. Several communities in the Belluno Dolomites celebrate the Desmontegada.
